TIA - This Is Africa

I’ve been itching to share these images with you for a while now. Together with a very talented creative team I shot a fashion editorial inspired by the many references to Africa that can be found in SS14 creations from many labels. Africa is definitely a continent on the rise and the world of fashion is never late to pick up on current trends, from wherever they evolve. Here is a selection from this fashion editorial – This Is Africa – published in latest issue 14 of The View Magazine.

Technically, it was a fairly simple setup in terms of lighting, with a large Elinchrom Rotalux octabox to the left on a 45 degree angle, a v-flat to the right and a medium grey background.

89

Very talented and versatile Jaz and I met one summer morning in northern Stockholm to shoot some retro fashion images. Here are some of the frames from that shoot. I introduced some Fuji Provia feel to them to go with the theme. They bring back memories of a certain rather famous singer from a very successful Swedish music export, don’t you think? Feel free to share if you like.

Here's the story behind the shoot.

Bohemian Fashion with Karin

I met Karin one morning at what has become one of my favourite locations for bohemian fashion. We kept it simple with natural light and a softbox. Karin is really inspiring to work with and a natural in front of the camera. I think the shoot worked very well. What do you think?

Here's how the shoot came about.

Up!

Inspired by the beautiful animated story Up, Sarah and I took to the Swedish country side one cold and snowy March morning, with balloons in tow. In these conditions you have to work fast to create high quality fashion photography and it helps if you are as professional as Sarah.. and warm blankets is always a bonus.

Winter Romantic

A very cold and windy, but sunny day, in early March, Hanna and I met up in Stockholm to create some spring-inspired romantic images. Let’s just say it was cold, not for me but for Hanna, which she doesn’t show one bit.

Sarah

In between the showers Sarah Amy Eckardt and I found some time for a test shoot. Very simple setup with all natural light. Just a reflector bouncing some of the soft light back into Sarah’s face. A Canon EOS 5D Mark III and a Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 does the rest.
What do you think?

The Beach

I hooked up with very talented model (and working photographer) Marcela Diaz in August to create some traditional beach images, including bikinis and beachwear. Well, that was the plan…

The summer had been fantastic, with hot and sunny weather in abundance… until we decided to do a beach session. After a number of failed attempts we decided to give it a go.

Finally at the beach we realised just how windy and overcast the conditions actually were. We had initially talked about high contrast beachfront pictures with blue skies and a lots of sun. Instead we had to change our plan drastically.
